The Myth of the "Premium" Card
Marketing departments want you to believe that "serious" adults pay annual fees. They dangle shiny metal cards and "concierge service" (which is just a Google search) to get you to cough up $695.
The truth? Unless you travel 4+ times a year or are addicted to airport lounges, you probably don't need a fee card.
The "No-Fee Trinity" Strategy
You can build a powerful wallet using only free cards:
- Card 1 (The Earner): Citi Double Cash (2% on everything).
- Card 2 (The Diner): Capital One Savor (3% on food).
- Card 3 (The Traveler): Wells Fargo Autograph (3x on travel, no foreign fees).
Total Annual Fee: $0. Total Rewards: Better than most $95 cards.
⚠️ The "Savor" Confusion
Capital One recently made things confusing. The no-fee card is now called "Savor" (it used to be SavorOne). The card called "SavorOne" is now the version for "Fair Credit" and actually has an annual fee. Make sure you apply for the right one.
